The South Route is a more challenging hike that leads through the mountains south of Port-au-Prince.  The features offered include staying overnight at Rustik, one of Haiti's most unique bed and breakfasts; experiencing the beautiful scenery of mountainous southern Haiti; visiting La Visite, one of Haiti's two national parks; exploring Jacmel, the cultural and artistic heart of the country; and swimming in Basin Bleu, one of Haiti's most famous waterfalls.


Below is a standard itinerary, but all hikes can be customized to fit the needs and desires of your group.  Contact us to schedule your hike!

Standard South Route Itinerary


Day 1:  Port-au-Prince

  • Arrive Port-au-Prince in the morning

  • Tour the city

  • Visit the National Museum of Haiti (MUPANAH)

  • Overnight at O'Zone Bed & Breakfast   (formerly known as Rustik) in Furcy


Day 2:  Hike to Seguin

  • Begin hike in early morning

  • Roughly 10 hours

  • Hike through La Visite National Park

  • Overnight at Kay Winnie's in Seguin


Day 3:  Hike to Marigot

  • Begin hike in early morning

  • Roughly 15 miles

  • Arrive in Marigot and take taptap to Jacmel

  • Overnight in Jacmel


Day 4:  Spend day in Jacmel

  • Visit Bassin Bleu

  • Take guided tour of Jacmel

  • Overnight in Jacmel


Day 5:  Hike to Tomgateau

  • Begin hike in early morning

  • Roughly 15 miles

  • Overnight in Tomgateau


Day 6: Hike to Leogane

  • Being hike in early morning

  • Roughly 15 miles

  • Overnight in Leogane


Day 7:  Beach Day

  • Spend time at Taino Beach

  • Travel to Port-au-Prince in the afternoon

  • Overnight in Port-au-Prince


Day 8:  Depart Haiti

  • Fly out of Port-au-Prince in early afternoon


This route is challening and is intended for more experienced backpackers or those who are physically fit.
